Catia V5
Catia V5 is an advanced product-oriented 3D modeling and simulation solution for industrial design. It is a powerful design and analysis software capable of creating sophisticated 3D models. It offers a user-friendly interface that makes it ideal for non-CAD users. It is also an integral part of Dassault Systèmes' CATIA. It is the tool of choice for professional product designers and offers a standard work platform that allows the definition of visual assets.
The CATIA V5 family of products includes CATIA V5 and CATIA V5R18, CATIA V5R19 and CATIA V5R20, and CATIA V5R21. A client-server architecture is used for V5 and V5R18, and the web-based CATIA V5R19 and V5R20.
The CATIA V5 software is based on PTC Creo® technology, which is a subset of the PTC Creo Suite. This family of tools is intended to meet the needs of mechanical, architectural, civil, chemical, and biomedical engineering and design. It is an integrated platform that combines the design of the physical world with the representation of virtual world.
The design and analysis capabilities of the CATIA V5R21 release are focused on product design and visualization.
History
It was first introduced in 1993. First version, was released as CATIA V4R13.
In 1995, the developers started working on CATIA V5, which was released in 1996.
In 1998, Dassault Systèmes, the French business software and technology company, acquired PTC. It is also the company which developed PTC Creo®. In 2004, it rebranded PTC Creo as the CATIA family of products.
Starting with version 5, CATIA V5R was introduced and developed by PTC. The last two editions (V5R18 and V5R19) were developed by Dassault Systèmes.
First Version (V4R13)
The first version (V4R13) was released in 1993. It was mainly a professional product, targeting mechanical, architectural, civil, chemical and biomedical engineering. The early version of the product, which used what was then referred to as "Creo", was first released in December 1993.
